What is watchers on the wall?

The Watchers on the Wall, more commonly known as the Night's Watch, are a military order whose purpose is to guard the Wall, a massive fortification that stretches hundreds of leagues across the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms.

Their primary duty is to defend the realms of men from threats that lie beyond the Wall, including the Wildlings and, more ominously, supernatural dangers like the White Walkers.

The Night's Watch is sworn to take no wife, hold no lands, and father no children. They serve for life, and desertion is punishable by death. The order accepts men from all backgrounds, including nobles, commoners, criminals, and bastards.

The Watch is led by the Lord Commander, who is elected by the sworn brothers of the Night's Watch. The order is divided into three orders: the rangers, who patrol beyond the Wall; the builders, who maintain the Wall and the castles; and the stewards, who handle supplies and other administrative tasks.

Over time, the Night's Watch has dwindled in numbers and prestige, with its once-noble purpose often forgotten by those in the south. They rely on support from the Seven Kingdoms, but this support is frequently insufficient.
